Guyana’s president praises Cuban medical cooperation.

Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo has expressed his gratitude to the Cuban government for its support in the field of healthcare and highlighted the excellent work of the Cuban doctors poviding service in a newly-opened hospital in his country.

JAMAICA : Inquest begins into Woolmer’s death.

The long-awaited coroner’s inquest into the death of former Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer during this year’s Cricket World Cup opened in Jamaica , with nearly 50 witnesses expected to be called.
The main purpose of the inquiry is to return a verdict as to how in your opinion the victim met his death, Coroner Patrick Murphy, who is presiding over the inquest, told a jury made of six women and five men. Murphy said the inquest would likely last until Nov. 9.

The international cricket world was plunged into shock on March 18 when Woolmer was found unconscious in his Kingston hotel room, a day after Pakistan crashed out of the World Cup following an ignominious defeat by underdogs Ireland.

FAO PLEADS FOR RIGHT TO FOOD IN THE WORLD:

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) urged the international community to renew its commitment to ensuring food for the hundreds of millions of ill-nourished people worldwide.

 

Barbados focuses on food security.

The Right to Food’ is the theme for World Food Day 2007 and, according to Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Erskine Griffith, Food Security continues to be “high on the national agenda” in keeping with Barbados’ National Strategic Plan.
With an annual food import bill of over BDS$400 million, Griffith said his ministry had been taking steps to engender national food security. In this regard, he said that following consultations with members of the farming community, the ministry had identified a number of items in which it was felt that Barbados could become self-sufficient.

Leaders meet to talk about energy resources, U.N. reforms

JOHANNESBURG: Leaders of South Africa, Brazil and India meet Wednesday to bolster an alliance that is challenging the United States and Europe for access to resources in the developing world and influence on the global stage.
