BC Lions

NEVER A DOUBT!!
B.C. LIONS BRING HOME THE GREY CUP
• They had the best record in the CFL.
• They won 5 of 6 CFL Awards including League
Most Outstanding Player (Geroy Simon).
• They had an awesome defence.
• They had a competent kicker.
• They had three quarterbacks that got the job done
all season
• They won the West division Final.
• They were expected to win the Grey Cup and
they did - 25-14 over Montreal in front of a full
house (44,786).
The Lions took the Als to school - even though
they only scored one touchdown (Pierce to Smart
- 25 yards) they dominated the game from start to
finish.
After scoring a field goal at 4:49 of the first quarter,
B.C. never relinquished the lead. Paul McCallum
tied a CFL record kicking 6 of 6 field goals.
Quarterback Dave Dickenson was named the game
MVP even though his numbers have been better,
he did enough to capture the Cup. He completed
18 of 29 attempts for only 184 yards (the lowest
number of yards this season) but he distributed the
ball well enough to keep Montreal guessing while
marching down the field to give McCallum field
goal range. Coach Wally Buono used all three
quarterbacks during the game.
Montreal rallied late in the 4th quarter getting
to the Lions two yard line but Javy Glatt forced
Robert Edwards to fumble - Otis Floyd recovered
and that was the end of Montreal’s hopes.
B.C. was the best team in the league and in the end it was a team effort
that brought the Grey Cup to B.C. for the 5th time in franchise history.
Back next year: Paris Jackson - 2-year deal Javy Glatt
signed a 2-year deal plus option Buck Pierce will be
Dickenson’s #1 backup again next year and has a salary increase written
into his contract if he replaces Dickenson in 2008.

Around The CFL

At
the recent Board of Governor’s meeting held in Hamilton, the
CFL had discussions on issues including instant replay, a salary management
system and the Grey Cup broadcast, currently set for the CBC. League Commissioner
Tom Wright indicated the Cup broadcast could be moved to another network
because of the labor dispute. It appears that won’t happen if the two
sides continue their talks after agreeing in principal to get workers
back to work.
The league confirmed that a pre-season game will be held
on the East Coast again next year, probably in Moncton, N.B. A successful
exhibition game was held in Halifax this year. Other issues will be discussed
at league meetings in the off season.
